How can online resources be protected from misuse?
HAN makes it possible to protect online resources from misuse such as illegal downloading etc. via metering. Data transfer between provider and user can be monitored either at online resource or user level. If the daily limits defined by licensing law are exceeded, the access authorizations of individual users are automatically blocked for a specified period of time. The HAN administrator receives an automatic notification of any blocking that has taken place so that, in special cases, the block can also be lifted manually via the web interface.
Another important feature of HAN is the integrated crawler protection. It prevents unauthorized access to the online resources and thus prevents misuse of the licenses. This means that potential access to online resources by piracy platforms such as SciHub will be prevented or made more difficult in future.
